Hello & Warmest Welcome to the Teacher’s Toolbox!
I am thrilled to have a platform where I am able to openly address educational topics for many of my readers to connect with. While there are endless amounts of resources for teachers to draw upon, it is here and my hope to have this be a common ground of discussing controversial topics that are presented on a day-to-day basis to many, not only educators. With theses controversial topics, I will shed light on how and where these subjects are presented, handled and managed within a classroom.
Technology in the classroom…
For the purpose of my first blog, I will begin to address the principled resistance against the use of technology within the classroom. While yes, there is an abundance of evidence of the distraction that cell phones can cause to students who are in a learning environment. However, it is essential that today’s students need technology in the classroom.
SecurEdge…
Let’s jump into analyzing SecurEdge , as they created a blog talking about the 10 Reasons Today’s Students NEED Technology in the Classroom. (Click on image to be redirected to SecurEdge)
Preparing students for future success…
The first reason, “If used correctly, mobile devices and the applications they support, will help prepare students for their future careers.” (SecurEdge) It is my belief that educators amongst the nation have this mindset of preparing their students to be successful in all of their future endeavors.
Engagement…
Another reason that is examined, “Integrating technology in education helps students stay engaged. Most students today have been using mobile devices like tablets and smartphones to play and learn since they could crawl. So it only seems logical to align today’s classrooms with the way that your students want and are used to learning.” (SecurEdge) Engagement, engagement, engagement!!! This is a piece to the puzzle on how to set students up for this preparing of future student success.
Addressing different learning styles & experiences…
Lastly, and I would argue one of my most favorite reasons to utilize the use of technology within the classroom is the ability to reach each and everyone of your students. Hence, this is where I can touch upon the latest buzz word in the education world of “differentiation”. Technology can meet any learning style in the books. You can take my word for it. If you don’t believe me, please enlightenment me as I would love to able to find something else. SecurEdge highlights that, “Students have access to an incredible amount of new opportunities. From learning how to code to learning how to better collaborate across teams and with their instructors–technology empowers students to be more creative and be more connected.” (SecurEdge).
Over the next six week, I will spend time expressing my personal opinions about topics that are often debated among teachers. I encourage those who may agree or disagree with me to please leave a comment telling me what you think. Let’s get this conversation flowing!
Until next time, happy blogging!
